In search of an UL grater!

Sun 08 Oct, 2023 9:17 am

Hi all,
Anyone know of an extra light and small but functional grater that I could use at camp dinnertime? I'd like to grate a chunk of parmesan when I have pasta. Also, i'd like to grate a potato or a carrot to make a potato patty or carrot salad. I do a bit of kayak camping. Till now, I've grated the parmesan at home and wrapped it in cling wrap, but it does tend to melt back together a bit during the paddling. I like the idea of putting a potato in the dry bag and grating it at dinner time, to make a potato cake or something on my mini trangia. At home I use a 30cm long microplane and a box grater. I must admit I haven't even begun searching online yet, but thought I'd ask here first!

Have a great weekend,
Cheers,
WM.

You could buy the blade only!

Mini box grater 36 grams, I think I bought mine at Minimax. We use it for grating parmesan when hiking. Has 4 different grating faces, so one could conceivably use it for grating other stuff, but I've never tried.

The mini-boxes are great and recommended to grate garlic too but i've stopped looking after being told they've become unavailable. That leaves a lucky find in an Op-shop.
Excellent for the thick, crevassed calluses on your heels as well, after soaking.

Great ideas, thanks! I also see that MSR makes a great looking alpine strainer / grater :) Apparently it's about 34g.
Thanks!
