Right on, Strider! I've been singing their praises for almost 12 months.

Their prices are, on average, slightly higher than buying online from the US. But the difference is in the postage. US postage is extremely expensive (like starts at $40 AUD) and generally takes me three weeks on average. I've never waited more than 7 calendar days for anything from Ultralight Outdoor Gear, and once after I ordered on a Monday, it was on my doorstep by Thursday!

Just a reminder that prices have 20% VAT by default. For accurate prices, go to your cart and change your region to Australia - it will remove the 20% VAT and show postage price too.

Golite won't ship to Australia from their website, so I did pay (quite) a bit more up front. But you get that on big jobs.

Still waiting on a windshield I ordered from them a couple of days before the pack, but going by this I should be seeing it soon too!

Yes I was sure to change region to Australia to get the accurate postage, and remove the VAT :)

When I read this topic heading, I thought it was a post about using ultralight Gear instead of the traditional heavier hiking gear commonly sold.
For the past few months I've been slowly replacing my gear for ultralight or lightweight gear. After spending 4 weeks in the Sydney surrounding area a year ago with 20Kg on my back, I thought to myself, never again, I'm going to cart so much weight on my back. I'm now down to less than 9Kg base load. Working on getting this down to apx 6 or 7kg the most. Almost there, just have the Rain jacket and pack to replace, than I should be down to 6kg.

Is that a Golite pack in your avatar? How are you finding it?

No. Its a monstrous heavy one planet canvas pack. I dont use that pack any more. It weighs 3kg

Now we're really starting to go gram counting! Its impressive, but I'm not so sure your food kit will work for most people.
Standard backcountry double meals are generally 200gm so I'm assuming your'e talking about a single serving, which is not enough for me nor anyone I know.
Going by your list, each day you'll have
-150gm of oats
-1.2 museli bars
-100gm of scroggin
-and a single serving of a back country meal

Other than that, nice setup with your gear. I guess in your part of the country, its 32 degrees every day but then you'll likely be needing to carry more than 1L of water (depending on where you walk)
now back to strider for hijacking this thread.

:-) I don't eat much - museli breaky, scroggin & museli bar thru day, single serve dehyd @ nyt. As for water, it's everywhere up here, carry treatment, but don't bother using most tyms.
Sorry if hijacked anything, bit new 2 this.
Moved 2 new topic
Cheers Jason
