I've found the One Planet 'Goondie' to be a strong solid one person tent. But at 1.66kg, it doesn't quite fit into the Ultra Light category. However, I would trust it in just about any conditions, whereas there would be few sub-1.5kg tents I'd trust in Tassie's highlands during a winter storm.

NB: One Planet are a site sponsor, so I have the potential to be biased, but I'm attempting to give my honest opinion.

My Terra Nova Laser Competition 1 (weighing in at 1.26kg's with pegs and ground sheet) survived a very blustery night on the exposed saddle above Haven Lake in the Western Arthurs. It is hard to know the strength of the gusts without having a wind speed meter - but probably over 60kph.

Very happy with the size, stability and manufacture of the tent. I have not had it in falling snow yet. I have pitched it on snow.

The main issue is a bit of condensation on the fly - but the tent inner remains dry.

You could cook in the vestibules in all the tents above is my understanding. I have no trouble with the Terra Nova.

I highly rate my pacer 2. The pacer 1 is lsightly lighter and presumably much sturdier given the poles are similar but the surface area of the tent is much less and the tent as a sharper apex to the roof. Wheres the pacer 2 has quite a flat roof.

Having only seen the Macpac and Terra Nova I wouldn't use either. The Terra Nova looks decidely nonduty heavy weather.

I heard you met one of our merry bands norts.. sounds like it was a tough week for you.

I'd choose the golite shangrila-3 with one of the various custom solo inners. Huge, versatile and strong (pitched properly)(at least as strong as the 'cross pole' or other 'rigid' tents i'd say). Potentially lighter than anything mentioned.
(I actually prefer the fly, groundsheet, bivy combo but then its not really a 'tent'..)
The akto is a great little tent, as i'm sure are some of the other similar designs, just cramped unfortunately.

I have not seen the Akto - but the other Hilleberg tents are well thought out and well made.

I have been surprised by how good the Laser has performed in bad weather. As mentioned elsewhere - it does FLAP. But does not seem to break.

I have a free standing Big Agnes tent t 1.8kg that I was going to use in rougher weather - but the Laser has stood up to everything so far. ILVSWTAS - what trouble did you have in heavy rain?

Yes it does flap, but hasnt busted yet, so it does appear strong....

Just the small size of the tent meant a fair bit of splashback occured in heavy rain making the inside of the fly wet. Also being so small, it is hard to keep the walls from touching the fly, dont get me wrong, i love my terra nova, but compared to the akto... well it's like a datsun to a ferrari, yes datsuns do the job and are quite comfortable, but the ferrari is an amazing ride!!

Off topic - drove a rebuilt Datsun Fairlady when I was in Melbourne recently. What a hoot. No power steering or brakes. Lots of torque. and you could throw the thing sideways and do control drifts in corners. A hell of a lot of fun to drive. No Ferrari though.

So far the Laser Competition 1 keeps throwing itself in front of me, just not sure on its ability to handle high winds and snow dumps, any experience anybody?

The 4 season Cuben shelter discussed here was actually a mountaineering tent by Brooks Range called the Rocket.
Not all that dissimilar from a Vaude Hogan but using trekking poles at the front.
It was discontinued because a reflective layer was peeling off.
Now that it is discontinued I can say that I liked the shape however a reflective layer that in effect resulted in a black environment inside , in a mountaineering tent, was a particularly daft idea...
(if this is not obvious, note that expedition/mountaineering tents have a very bright , mostly yellow, inside environment and for a good reason)
Brooks Range has now a silnylon version of the Rocket called Propel

BTW, a mountaineering tent does not usually make a good 4 season tent...
(they are made to have a small footprint with wind/snow protection as a priority not rain nor ventilation...)

Even the propel is no more, just a floorless 'Ultralight Quick Tent'. Back to the drawing board.

The Warmlite 2R climbers tent at 1200grams looks reasonable

The only thing I dislike about these is that damn vestibul floor when cooking and no traditional entry door, vestibul, then inner door and mesh design...every time I look for a new tent these Warmlights keep popping up, but that floor and door fail keeps knocking me back.

I read somewhere about, may have been on BPL or here that there were some quality issues with warmlite, someone was complaining about the sewing quality

Yes, I spotted the tread and honestly I wonder how people that complain about things like that manage to go out in the bush and not be horrified by animal dung or rain...
Warmlites are a genuine cottage industry product.
They are designed and made on location one at a time not 500 a day as they are in a Chinese factory or two.
So yes , sometimes stitching is a bit crocked...
However I do agree that the design is not all that good for rainy areas .
BTW, about 10 years ago many raved on about them, the product has not changed, we have.
My take about that particular complaint is that the guy had a change of mind and opted for a different product.

Yes to high wind. ? Snow dump - have yet to experience this.
