Where to get tent 'modded'?

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Where to get tent 'modded'?

Postby nathanashton » Tue 07 Feb, 2012 2:44 pm

Hi all,

I use an MSR Hoop tent which is very similar to the Hubba Hubba HP.

It has the solid inner with a small amount of mesh at the top of the doors for ventilation. In Queensland though I still find the tent to be quite warm. I think it would benefit highly from the increased ventilation by having 100% mesh doors. My idea would be for the tent to be 'modded' so that either the original or mesh doors can be attached depending on the need.

Any suggestions on where I could get this type of work carried out?, or even if you think it might be worthwhile.

Cheers

Honestly, unless you can do the work yourself it will be much cheaper to simply buy a new tent.
$55- and hour plus materials and no guarantee of success

G'day Nathan, If you're not too keen on forking out for a new tent you could always give Evan at Terra Rosa Gear a call and see if he would at least give you a quote on the work, may work out cheaper? Might be some other 'modders' out there but I don't know of any, not like back in the fatherland... You're tent may end up a little heavier but as a bonus it'll be more versatile.

Thanks all for the advice. It does seem like from a cost (and hassle) point of view if might be best to consider another tent. I'm always sharing the tent with company so a solid inner is probably always going to be quite warm.

Just had a look at some of the Shangri-La 3 options with nests and inners that are available. Look pretty cool. Might need to use my MSR a few more times and then see if I need a change or not.

Cheers
