EVERNEW stove set

I'm looking at getting myself an alcohol stove kit with integrated windshield.

Has anyone had any experience with the Evernew Appalacian (http://www.evernewamerica.com/ECA268.htm) set?

It appeals to me as it comes in at 161g (plus fuel) and the pot can also house a gas canister and stove for times when I want to go with gas.

I intend on using the pot as my mug and eating dehydrated meals.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

It is a neat little unit which will also function as a wood burner or use esbit tablets. I have one without the pot but used it with a very similar 550ml pot with a CF lid.I have only had the opportunity to use it on one overnighter using metho so I have not really come to grips with it. I am hoping to use it on a couple of trips over January. It worked well and it is nice having the burner marked with fuel capacity. The comments I have read about it as a wood burner are that it needs constant feeding as there is not a lot of capacity for the wood.

ON the 550ml mug, I find it is a good capacity for most uses - soup, hot drinks, porridge, muesli etc but when cooking pasta type meals it may be a bit small if you use spirals or penne. I generally prefer a pot around 700-900 ml. but these can still be used on the burner. The burner unit (EBY255) is available (no pot) so you can use a slightly larger one if you want. Looking at the pot (ECA266), it has a lip in the bottom presumably to fit into the top of the stove. The lip could be a real pain when cleaning.

Cheers Mark,

I have a larger titanium pot already, so I'll use that one when I want to cook (rather than rehydrate in a bag).

I think I'll order the Evernew system.

Hi Mark,

Reference the Evernew 550ml pot, does a 100g gas canister and stove fit inside?

Cheers.

An Optimus 100ml canister is 90mm diameter which seems to be the same as a Jetboil canister and smaller diameter than an MSR small canister. While I cannot confirm that the canister will fit in the Evernew 550ml pot it certainly seems to according to the specs. The canister does fit in my 550ml pot (not an Evernew) but there is not enough room for a stove. In my Evernew 700ml Pasta pot (92g with lid) I do get a 100ml canister, my Monatauk Gnat stove, folding spork, lighter and jiffy cloth + room for tea bags, condiments etc. All up 172g +190g for the full canister. I should add a windshield, pot cozy and bag - + ~ 50g.

I'm not familiar with the Evernew 550ml pot specifically, but I was at a shop on Saturday. I tried a Snow Peak canister with a GSI Minimalist, a Snow Peak 700, and a couple of other similar set ups. Every one of them was a good fit for a Snow Peak canister. Optimus, Snow Peak, and JetBoil (plus other brands) all have the same diameter for their 100g class canisters.

It is MSR and Brunton that have the odd diameter for their 113g canisters (do they even have Brunton in Oz? I think that's USA only, yes?). The MSR 113g canisters have the same diameter as a 227g canister -- with half the capacity. That's a lot of steel for not much capacity. I never buy them. More expensive, less convenient, and heavier. Why would I buy one?

Hi Oyster

How did you go with the Evernew stove set? Did you end up buying yet? I am seriously looking at this set as well. Would be interested in hearing your feedback.

After my first post on this thread I had a play with 4 of my 7 ti pots - sad isn't it! I found the 2 Evernew pots had somewhat more capacity than stated. See my blog at ozwalk.wordpress.com for details. I am working on a post to look at what will pack into them which I hope to finish this weekend.

Hi Flying Lion,

I did order the pots (and alcohol burner), but they are yet to arrive. As soon as they do arrive, I'll have a play and post a review. I'll also give info in gas canister and stove packing.

Hi Cam,

It took some time to arrive, but it is now here. I'll let you know how it goes as soon as I have a play.
