TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

ecolite boots and (yet more) footwear advice please!!

has anyone heard of or had any experience with ecolite footwear? I tried on a pair of these recently at anaconda: http://www.ecolitefootwear.com.au/html/s02_article/article_view.asp?id=219
(not sure if the link worked - but they are the women's olympus model)

I thought they seemed pretty comfy and reasonably light for boots, just a little stiff around the ankles (not sure whether I would class them as supportive or restrictive ?!?!?!). They are made of nubuck leather and have vibram soles; they are described as "waterproof" but have no goretex lining or anything.

Do you think they would be suitable for someone starting out doing overnight/multi-day walks in Tassie? Still undecided whether to get boots or shoes - for day walks I've always just worn my runners. The gear I've been accumulating is probably about medium to light weight and I dont have any ankle problems, just want some lightweight footwear which is waterproof in the sense that I can have dry feet going through puddles and wet grass/scrub. I mainly intend to walk on trails - but in Tassie some trails are more off trail than on.
This week I will be going in to Hobart to try on more shoes and would appreciate any advice and/or recommendations for other brands to try. So far I've tried keen targhee boots and shoes and teva dalea boots with event lining. I found the ecolites to be the most comfortable, with keen targhee boots a close second.

Hi, I cant say Ive ever heard of this breed of boot. I would be wary of buying a boot labelled as Ecolite that is made of non-ecolite leather. If you do a search theres some good threads already here about the boot/sneakers dilema.
I'm a sneakers fan, however in snow I have yet to decide on that one...others have though in other threads if you search.
Goodluck.

I purchased the olympus mens boot in anaconda moore park. The boots is certainly light weight and exceeded my expectations in wet weather condition. The boot has been tested and approved to carry ecolabel. All the testing information can be found on ecolite website. In terms of value for money I can not recommend this boot highly enough! I hope this helps.

Funny you should mention this brand, at work today, got talking to a customer and we soon gathered we both keen hikers, started talking about boots and the drama I have with finding hiking shoes that don't cause me grief. He mentioned these boots and said he hiked all over new Zealand and Europe and never received a blister. He found them the most comfy boots.

Was at the local camp store today to purchase a hiking stove and noticed they just started stocking the eccolite boots. The boots look good. Did not try any, but I will when my feet are better.
