Sorry if this is discussed to death, but Ive never owned a tunnel tent, dont know much about them and looking to get one.

contenders are Kaitum 3 Vs Nammatj 3 vs Macpac Olympus

Costs are all comparable and I think all are around the 3.1 kg mark.
It will be used as a 2 person so thats why I included the macpac.

Quite alot of members here have them, and I was hoping if owners have any feedback.

I used an Olympus for walking and ski touring from the mid 80's to early 00's until it UV disintegrated.
Totally bombproof (I added snow skirts) in severe SW Tas & alpine weather and very roomy BUT too heavy re today's competition IMO.

I've used tunnel tents for the past 15 years, recently purchased a new Hilleberg Nammatj 2 GT to replace my aging 15 year old tunnel tent, there easy and quick to erect, my old tunnel tent is very similar in design to my new Hilleberg tent, the Hilleberg is superior to any tent I've ever owned and probably ever will. A true palace in the bush, snow, beach or where ever you wish to pitch. With my new found interest of long distance hiking, to own a tent where you can erect the outer tent first in a matter of minutes in the rain than unpack your gear undercover away from the rain and erect the inner totally dry is a real luxury. As you can guess I'm very happy with my Hilleberg tent.

Tunnel tents are also very roomy for there weight. One of the main advantages of a tunnel tent is that it is very easy to pitch. Its pitching time is very short that you would find it hard to believe that you were able to finish it in just a few minutes.

Hilleberg has a section on the difference between tunnel tents and dome tents,

ok,... i'm about ----> <---- close to getting a nammatj.

I've already owned 2 hillebergs, so I'm a big fan already.
I think i ruled out the kaitum due to its 4.3m length!!!! Its good to be able to double up 9mm poles, but i think its even better to double up 10mm poles after seeing winds flattening my jannu.
just having a real hard time to go with either a nammatj 3 at 3.1kg, or phil's nammatj 2GT at 3.5kg
400g doesnt phase me for a snow tent, but I think i'd rather have the 30cm extra interior width rather than the 80cm extra length vestibule.

Phil did you consider the nammatj 3 or any reasons why you ruled out any other tents?

Just couldnt resist the nammatj 3 with Neptune mountaineering's 20% off sale using this code http://image.exct.net/lib/fef61273766c01/i/1/5671efc3-d.jpg
even works for everything, including western mountainering

Total came out to about $450 AUD....... How to say no?
I got it shipped to shipito so about $500 AUD all up delivered, sweet.
Can always decide on a macpac later. they always seem to go on sale these days.

Wow, what a bargain, $500.00 delivered.

I did consider the Nammatj 3, Hilleberg tents are rated correctly, when they say it's a 2 man tent it's a 2 man tent. I've seen tents rated 3 man smaller than my Hilleberg that your lucky to fit one person in. I think a lot of tent manufacturers rate there tents with no bedding.
On a recent trip to the royal national park I had my Exped Downmat 9 Dlx and my nephew had his single air mattress and there was heaps of room for both of us and all our gear. I like the extra vestibule. I also ordered the groundsheet for my Hilleberg.
