TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

My goodness, that is the worst pitched Scarp I have seen so far...
(just kidding, sort of...)
This is what is meant to look like.

Please tell your friend to practice before that tent is used in the bush.

I think that I need the new version now.

tent warming event just had

very nice tent, well made, spacious even for tall ones, quite a few nifty design features

sounds like there should be another order or 2 soon

Sorry, could not help myself...
The first Tarptent I set up was the Rainbow. I was so excited about it (I collected that from the Post Office at 7 AM ..) that I could not find the opening on the sleeve for the pole (much smaller than the one on the Scarp) So I shoved the pole inside just to see what it looked like...

The tricky part setting the Scarp is to get the corners to sit square and taut particularly with the extra poles in place. Without doing it myself I cannot remember exactly how it is done, but you need to change the tension of the bottom part of the guyline compared to the standard set up.
Once you get it right it is easy to do again.
If you have any question about this shelter, fire away, I have the first version but am aware of the changes.

I thought that Scarp Mark 1 was a pretty good compromise between weather protection and ventilation options. However due to those vociferous winging Poms (thanks for that...) Henry tweaked the fly so that now it is down to the ground but, with the new bottom end vents , you can still have a good air flow. The cut on those panels was also modified, hard to tell but it is even "smoother" than before. That is a major flow (IMHO) of the two panel (one for each half) approach by most of the other similar designs.
Not perfect but a good attempt at perfection..

what's your take on the Scarp 2? ... I'm considering that

for Tassie conditions that is, including a fair bit of being out when it is cold and/or wet and/or windy

Henry said that he's likely to extend the fly on that too for the next production run some time later this year

would you wait for the extended fly?

For Tassie, Yes.

For the rest of Australia, It wouldn't hurt to wait - you'll get the same tent with all the improvements which would make it more versatile.

Hi
Yes, same as Photohiker.
The last time I asked , Henry was not too sure about the date , that has mostly to do with getting a window in the production line at the Seattle factories.
I can drop my fly down lower but there are , as I pointed out , some other nice touches on the new fly that makes it worthwhile waiting for.
Franco
BTW, as daft as it sounds not finding the entry point on the Rainbow sleeve wasn't just my problem. When the first production run came out the very first question on the forum was " how do I insert the pole ?"....
