HI,

We are pretty new to hiking, we started almost a year ago and just loved it, since then we have just gone full steam ahead getting out when we can for as long as we can.

We have decided to head to Tassie(my home state) and do the south coast track. We are looking at getting trekking poles as we always seem to pickup sticks. I am just looking for some advice on what to look for. My main questions are.

What features to look for?
How many, 1 or 2?
When you by a pair are the designated to the left and right hand?
What brand is recommended?
What is classed as a heavy pole?

Thanks in advance for any answers, I should warn i may be in this gear section asking a lot of questions over the coming 2 months :-)

Speaking from the replies and help I have received from the many helpful people on the list, this should not be a problem.
