Kmart $4 gas

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Interesting!

At one trade supplies store I could get those medium size gas for $9 where other places would charge $14.

So how much gas is in it when it says 227 gms net? Is that the empty? A 100 gm can weighs full, about 200.

I guess it's 227 contents (net) and higher total (gross)?

I haven't seen them in the flesh but will be picking one up when I get the chance.

What a bargain, I got some super cheap ones a while ago for $7, part of a bulk buy. These are $4 each and 80% Isobutane, 20% Propane which is a resonable mix for the cold as well. Already got a refill valve, so can use these to refill smaller cannisters. I still cannot get over the price $4

Wow, yes absolute bargain. I only do a handful of overnight or longer trips but will pick up a few of these.
"Campmaster" was actually a Big W stocked brand for the same thing. I still have a half empty one of those sitting here.
80/20 Isobutane/Propane 227 g net weight. They were cheap too, but not $4 .

Wow. Not a bad price or mix. Good to know. I normally get the gasmate cans from outdoors domain but postage costs are going up. Price gone up to $4.37. And you need to buy a box. Alright for me but not everyone would use as much. Although it's a slightly better mix at 75/25 iso-Butane/Propane mix but not having to buy bulk is a big plus. I think this takes the cake for being best value now.

Nett (or net) weight is the weight of the contents - Gross weight is the weight of the contents and the container. Just the same as printed on a tin of baked beans or tuna. Often on food tins and jars the omit "nett". Tare weight is the weight of the container.

If your mainly using your stove above about zero get some butane -six cans for about $3 -from the supermarket and just re-fill the 100 gm ones.
Cheap as chips.
That is if you haven't done this already :D

Bit of a shame they didn't go the smaller size. I suspect anyone buying a stove from kmart is unlikely to ever need to carry a 230. Still, I'm all for a bit of downward pressure on prices.
It's simple enough but I find the refilling a pain. What are you using Lamont? I have one of those $3 Ebay connectors. It works but it isn't great.

I haven't used a bought canister for above zero temps in about four years. Mine is this exact one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkbbKYtTnP0 Mine is a quality product and cost about $7. Paid for itself in the blink of an eye. I go through about eight of the 220gms carts each year. It's tiny though.
but the links to the product don't work. But it's just like refilling a lighter.
Just bought a three canister pack of butane (660gms for $4) from K Mark and the one you linked (220gms for $4) thanks for the notice by the way Craig. :D
This looks sort of like it, but not mine, from a quick look. So I can't recommend it. Bought mine so long ago from Korea I can't remember the site, sorry.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gas-Refill-Ada ... 1072.m2109
I would not ever refill anything unless it's the straight butane.

That's what I have. I find it only works well with a brand new butane can when the imbalance of pressure helps not so much gravity as per the video. I actually have a mess of canisters, some part used, some refilled, some empty. Need to start again and label and weigh etc Haha.

Note that refilling these canisters is illegal, and perhaps is a safety risk. I would never advise anyone else to do it. However, if they were doing it but finding it difficult to fill one canister from another source because of inadequate pressure differential, I would point out that the pressure differential can be increased by cooling the receiving canister (ie in the freezer), and warming the providing canister (eg with warm tap water, of no more than, say 40 degrees). Obviously, the warming temperature should be very carefully limited, eg. if the canister is too hot to touch with a bare finger, it's too hot. Also, canisters should not be overfilled - so, for example, a 200 g canister (gross weight) should never be filled with more than 100 g of gas - so accurate scales should be included in the filling process.

Again, this is not something I am suggesting that people do, but if they were doing it anyway, they would be thoughts of general interest (you know what I'm getting at).

Put the canister you are topping up in the freezer for 15 minutes. Fuel will flow freely.

The perfect refiller is very similar to the ones referenced here but has a flexible hose attached. A 230g canister will fill correctly if it is tilted at 35 degrees? (I can't find my notes when I determined this). This creates the required void and prevents overfilling.

Edit: Found the diagram

There's also a direct butane can- stove adapter, so no need to refill.
I'd imagine the '100g' cans aren't much lighter than '230g' cans?

Good find on the $4 cans :)

the tare of the 100g canister is about 100g and it is about 125g for the 230g canisters. (depending on the brand)

I’m more interested in the stove.

Not as efficient as a jet boil by the looks of it - but is that a 230g gas can they are showing as fitting inside? Must be shorter and wider than my Jetboil flash?

And it includes a bowl!

The photo does show a nesting 230g canister.
The version that BCF sells (twice the cost) has that in the description.
(Included is a large volume cup that can hold a standard 230g Gas Tank)
