Cap / visor with rain shell

Keeping rain out of eyes and giving some structure to the hood seems good, but I'm wondering if you just end up making a way for rain to get inside your hood and run down your neck as the cap / visor gets wet...

If anyone has real experience using a cap or visor under the hood of a rain shell any advice would be appreciated - thank you :D

use a waterproof cap, a non waterproof one will get saturated. less capillary action spreading the water with a waterproof one and more insulation from the colder rain

My advice is try them both in clement conditions. :D
For myself, I have found a cap is often too hot under a hood, but in the cold this can be good.
I much prefer a visor any day.
Tell us which worked for you.

As a newbie to bushwalking some years ago, I bought a rain jacket with no visor on the hood.
Have since moved to using a cap under the hood and find it very effective. On one rail trail outing in April 2018 with torrential rain and 80-100km/h winds, my cap eventually got wet through but not dripping. Until I invest in another rain jacket, very happy with this system.

Thanks all. It sounds like the idea is feasible in principle, so I'll give them a go and see what works for me.

A cap is also a slight help if sleeping wearing a head net, although the net drapes on your cheeks etc where bugs can bite through. Top up with a bit of off! cologne

You can also wear the cap over the outside of the raincoat hat.

This has worked for me - both with a cap and a wide brimmed hat on different trips to keep rain off my face.

Also take a baby bull clip to lock the hood to the cap if its windy.

Use a gortex style cycling cap - works well with the shorter peak.
