Care of Down Clothing / Bags

Just wondering if anyone has tips on care of lovely down jackets and sleeping bags that we tend to shell out small fortunes for.

One issue I've had with my jacket (about 1.5 yrs old) is small bits of down coming starting to appear along the seams of the sleeves - not wanting to pull them out, is there a way to stop / reduce this happening?

If you have access to a really large dryer or a laundromat nearby with large dryers, stick a couple of tenis balls in with the sleeping bag. These will bounce around and break up the clumps of down. Works quite well, but don't tell the guy at the laundromat you're doing it... they get a bit funny about it.

I don't have any tennis balls. Will cricket balls do?
And I'm guessing the rugby ball is right out of the question . . .
