Just a heads up. Aldi have an outdoor stuff happening on Sat 4th.
The usual thermals, merinos, socks, bags, packs, mats and misc stuff.
Of particular interest to me are Alite compact chair clones for $30. Weigh 900g and 120kg load rating. Probably 1/4 of the price of the genuine article.
cheers

Is this the big clearance sale where they try and get rid of all the previously unsold gear?

I don't know why I assumed you posted this thread MD. I guess I just know you're a total Aldi fanatic!

Let me pretend to be MD for a day/thread.
I was just in a store and it is in the latest catalogue that they were just passing around. Just the normal weekly deals.
Took a look at the Alite models and it appears to be a clone of the Mantis. If it looks good in the flesh I will be all over one !

OK so "Maybe" I need a cheap down jacket then and some more socks to replace my worn out explorers.
I didn't look at the down jackets last year so how good were they?

Nice and warm and showerproof. Probably not up to severe conditions but came in handy last winter around the Central Highlands lakes.

Might be OK for use car camping

Got one 2 years ago MD. Very cosy. Packs down to something like a coconut in size (sorry if thats no help but thats all that pops into my head). Not sure how it compares to others for packability as its the only down one ive owned. Very nice to wear at camp on a cool night, ive slept out at 0 degrees no shelter (lovely clear night) in it and been warm

Mine is last years model and is more suited to car camping in my opinion. The blurb for the latest one says packable in mesh pocket so may be a little different (also $10 cheaper).

Hmm yeah mine wasnt a mesh pocket just a big inner pocket (still compresses better just by rolling up though

Has anyone found a link to this online or received an Aldi email? I'm kinda interested in the compact chair clones for $30. I already subscribe to the Aldi email newsletter and haven't seen this yet. The web site only lists the special buys to July 1. Usually I get notifications well in advance.

Got one of the down jackets for my daughter last year. She wore it to Turkey in January and said it was great. They had snow and several very cold days touring around archeological sites in Turkey. It packs down into a small builtin pocket. Very handy.

Nice. I was looking at the Helinox one earlier the year as well
http://www.helinox.com.au/helinox-chair-one.phpAnd came across this similar one at ratuken:
http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/toolex/item/c1101/ A few sellers on ebay sell it if you search "C1 Ultralight Chair" but for around $80.

The Aldi one is more than half it's price, so I hope there's one at my local Aldi to have a look at.

I have the Helinox chair one and although I was laughed at on my last trip, I had the last laugh when everyone else took turns sitting in it on the last night and no one wanted to get out!

I bought the down jacket last year. This year I might buy the down vest and the chair.

The chair sounds good. Almost a kilo is a bit of a weight hit but so many times i wind up just going to bed cause theres nowhere to sit it might come in handy

The compact towel Aldi is offering looks identical to the Sea to Summit pocket towel, large size.
http://www.seatosummit.com.au/products/ ... ket-towel/ Note that the dimensions on the S to S page do not seem to relate to the towel size but perhaps the package size (but that doesn't seem right either). If you zoom in on the picture of the L size on the S to S page you will see a size of 60 x 121cm and Aldi quotes size of 60 x 120cm.

Im sure the old saying will never change, you get what you pay for.
Who knows we might start seeing the remains of these cheap Aldi chairs in hiking camp fires around the country like we often see camp chairs left behind from car campers.

Im sure the Helinox chairs are nice, and really they are not that expensive that id risk buying immitations over it when you can afford the real one.
Travis.

I think we must live on different planets if you think $148- for a bushwalking chair is cheap. That's a weeks food budget for the two of us or to put it another way half a fortnites AP

Even $30 is pretty much all i can (would) pay for a walking chair
