TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

3 season sleeping bag under 200$

Postby Hallu » Mon 01 Oct, 2012 12:17 pm

Hi,
I'm looking for a down filled sleeping bag for temperatures of around 8° C at the lowest, it would be for spring/summer/autumn 2 day hikes in Victoria and Tasmania. I saw the Comet from Kathmandu , the Shuttle 200 from Mountain Designs or the Escapade 350 from MacPac. Which one would you think is best ? Do you recommend other brands ? I'm pretty new in that area. Thanks in advance for your help.

macpac is probably the best designed of those, to do with shaped compartments to minimise cold spots and wasted space with air inside.... the shuttle looks a pretty crude design.
if you spend a bit more and get the escapade 500 you'll get a bit more warmth...

hard to find down bags at that price with decent loft....

can be worth it to spend a bit more on a bag if you can afford it. nothing like a good nights sleep in a warm bag, few things worse than a bad nights sleep in a cold one....

actually check the packed size of those bags, its only 600 loft on the macpac,
better weight and slightly better loft in a kathmandu globetrotter, i've got one, not a bad bag

Thanks but I'd already ordered the Escapade 500 when you posted this =/ Anyway I'm not sure I'd need the extra warmth of the 700, spring is warm enough in Victoria.
