U.S. Reshippers?

Bushwalking gear and paraphernalia. Electronic gadget topics (inc. GPS, PLB, chargers) belong in the 'Techno Babble' sub-forum.

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

U.S. Reshippers?

Postby RSD » Fri 22 Jun, 2012 1:34 am

I'm running into problems getting gear from the U.S. like many of you probably have - it's damn frustrating as the particular items that I want aren't even imported by the respective manufacturer's Australian distributors.

Which of the U.S. reshippers have people found to be good for

- cost (for infrequent use)
- reliability
- flexibility (e.g. willing to hold stuff for a few weeks until other items arrive to then consolidate them into one shipment)
- ability to follow instructions

Any help would be appreciated as it is rapidly becoming a frustrating process.

I will probably be able to bring a few bits and pieces in for other people at the same time (hope I'm not opening the flood gates here!)

I've found shipito.com to provide good service @8.50 / package + postage. However to consolidate packages you need to pay a monthly fee.

ditto. workmate uses them extensively with no probs. I"ve just started using them, they even send you a photo of the package when it arrives so you an see if it's in good condition, before deciding whether to forward it... most forwarding companies charge more for extra services like holding of consolidating...
shippito will us usps. not all companies will some only use courier companies...

Yeah, a huge tick for Shipito, I've used them 20 times over the last 15 months and they've never once been found wanting.

With Shipito are people using the facility in California or the one in Oregon?

You need to weigh up which is best: California or Oregon. There is no tax charged if shipped to Oregon. But shipping costs is higher, so you have to work it out if the saving's in tax will over ride the extra costs in freight.

If a store (say Campsaver in Utah) ships something to California do they charge the sales tax at the time of purchase or is the tax charged further down the line somehow?

I purchased a WiFi Remote for my GoPro Camera last week and was charged Tax immediately at checkout, when directed to California.

Was the purchase made from a store in California? If not it must be an administrative nightmare if stores have to do BAS-type returns for multiple states every month.

Ah OK. The Califronia shipito address should be fine then for anything purchased outside of California.

I've used Shopoholiques several times. It is run bay a former Melbourne woman who has lived in America for the last 20 years.
Based in New Jersey. I don't think sales tax is an issue in New Jersey.

Fees are a little higher than Shipito -e.g. $20 per box and $2.50 per for incoming parcel for consolidation.
However, service is great and Fiona does an excellent job packing consolidated items into the one box for forwarding.
You receive emails as each purchase for consolidation arrives at her residential street address, then a quote for postage and insurance options of consolidated items.

I've been doing some research into these US package forwarders, and these are my top 3 picks: myus.com, parcelbound.com, and bongous.com

I've looked into shipito.com too because they have good shipping rates listed, but after reading some of the posts from customers on their forum I don't have much faith in the type of service they will provide me: shipito.com/latest

pRice458, if I believed some of the things I saw about Shipito I wouldn't have used them.
But let me tell you I've had 20 packages sent by them from California to my place in Gosford since March 2011.
I have never had one issue with them in that time, so I can only speak from well-used experience.
"Tongue in cheek" don't believe EVERYTHING you see in forums.
There are some people who simply can't fill out info properly when setting up accounts, while others are just plain stupid.

That's good to hear; 20 successful shipments! Yes, that's definitely true...I guess just reading some of those posts makes me a bit hesitant, but the only way to truly find out the truth is by giving them a shot a having them prove me wrong.

I've gone with Shipito due to the recommendations on here. Hopefully it will be a trouble-free experience.

To save starting a new topic - is there any other U.S. webstores that have free shipping to Australia once your order reaches a certain amount like $400 or $500?

Ooops meant to say - is there any U.S. webstores other than Campsaver that have free shipping to Australia once your order reaches a certain amount like $400 or $500? (note to self - don't try to post when running late for work!)
