I picked up a bargain pair of new dachstein mitts today for $25 in Lonnie. Each mitt would have twice as much wool as one of those shirts!

Nuts wrote:ive been reading about other options, in particular Sportwool and the mix of wool and polyester in one garment. Made sense, wool on the inside and something more durable (lighter and quicker drying) on the outside, polyester.. Maybe a long sleeve zip top would make a good summer shirt, especially with some sort of collar...

Great minds think alike Nuts![]()
I like the feel of merino (awesome for travelling in and day to day wear) but find under high exertion (when pushing it and sweating lots) that it doesn't tend to wick the perspiration away from the skin as well as some polyester/polypro tops that I've had in the past. I end up feeling chilled when the exertion stops. (I used to have some Czech polypro tops that wicked really well and didn't get stinky, but they've been worn to death). I've also been looking for an alternative for a while and recently bought one of these: http://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/ ... p_top.html (I asked them to order in the berry colour version. I don't think white is particularly practical in our bush!). More expensive than the one you've identified Nuts but I've become a bit of a Montane fan and was happy to pay the extra $. An added bonus of the wool/poly blend is a better warmth to weight ratio than pure merino (another reason for my search for tops made from this blend).
Will report back when it's had a bit of use.
Cheers,
JB
