TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Bit Map / iPhone 4

I've just briefly tried BitMap on my iPhone 4. Very snappy! The zooming is so much more reliable on this device than on the older and much slower iPhone 3G I was using. The maps look great on the retina display.

I'll be trying out the GPS when I go for a bike ride this afternoon. It will be interesting to see how will the battery performs. I won't get a chance to thoroughly test Bit Map until next weekend.

(I was 8th in line at the Telstra store opposite the Apple store in Sydney CBD. I joined the queue @ 4:30pm and was fed from around 8pm by the stars of MasterChef. I didn't go hungry although I did have a bag of scroggin with me to get me through the first few hours. I was out of the store with the phone by about 12:30am  )

Thanks for the feedback, flatfoot.

It's been bad timing for me (iOS 4 and iPhone 4). There are some specific features of these two that I very much want to include in Bit Map, but instead I've been flat out working on the new image file format to reduce RAM problems. This has not been going as smoothly as I was hoping for, and I'm now running about 2 months behind schedule. :-(

I was pleasantly surprised by the migration of BitMap to my new phone. All the maps and routes were migrated as well.

It was a little confusing at first trying to work out whether I needed to update the 3G to iOS 4 first.

No probs with the delays ... It allows me to put off reimporting my maps. I am looking forward to the newer import technique you are working on.
