Kathmandu Moonraker ranking system

Today I had a look first hand at a Kathmandu Moonraker sleeping bag. Its proud owner was very happy with the bag, its weight to warmth rating given that it was a labelled -12. In looking at it I found the actual comfort rating is -6 on the inside of the bag. I then went looking on Kathmandu's site http://www.kathmandu.com.au/Sleeping_Ba ... proof.html where the prominent rating was -12 with the phrase "Cold environments -12°C limit rating". Err Um? is not a bag suppose to be listed at its comfort rating?

Now -6 is good enough for most of Tassie but at times it drops below this and I am a bit surprised that Kathmandu did not use the comfort rating. Am I wrong in my assumptions?

according to the site limit is a males comfort level. comfort is a females comfort level

T Extreme is a survival only rating for a "standard" adult woman. This is an extreme survival rating only and it is not advisable for consumers to rely on this rating for general use. The best guideline temperatures for purchase decisions are the T Comfort and T Limit ratings.


T Limit is based on the lowest temperature at which a "standard" adult male is deemed to be able to have a comfortable night's sleep.

T Comfort is based on a "standard" adult woman having a comfortable night's sleep.

Arh! So I mucked up. I thought boys and girls were only a few degrees difference but was wrong.

Never underestimate the power of having a local store with products in stock. Also the power of a "sale".

Rather heavy compared to my WM bags but still s respectable bag with what looks like a strong outer casing.

Pricing of down products locally is starting to look more sensible.

kathmandu are desperate to sell their gear, they arent selling as much as they used to and have had to hammer the sales to try and get rid of gear. their margins are lower than they have been for a long time.
the sales drag on because they can't shift all their stock, more people than ever are buying online overseas. and know that their rrp stands for recommended rip off price...
it should be a good bag,
the exped bags arent cheap...
