TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Harsh weather/ Equipment failure

Has anyone got any stories of camping in extremely harsh weather (Low tempratures/ High winds), where their equipment has either stood up, or failed. I am also interested in any photos of tents under snow loading.

Friends lost a Macpac Olympus due to snow loads at Kosciusko, 20 plus years ago. They had there feet supporting the roof for some time before they decided to bail and go to the tent next door to repeat the process but there were four in the tent this time so they took it in turns of supporting the roof. They left the failed tent in the snow and walked/skied out the following day and reported the problem to the police. In spring a walker found the tent, so they got it back and it was still usable. Very few if any tents would of survived in those conditions.
