TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Vargo No-fly 2P Tent

Tue 01 Dec, 2020 2:04 pm

Drop is currently advertising a Vargo No-Fly 2P tent for USD 350 which is something like AUD 475, plus postage. It is constructed of 20d 410t siliconised nylon (both walls and floor) and weighs-in at 1.196 kg. Just wondering if anybody knows anything about these tents?

Thanks cha, I read the article and it seemed to be a pretty convincing thumbs-down.

I don't need another tent but it is light and roomy.

The "no fly" bit is what Tarptent has been doing for 20 years now.
Take a look at the Tarptent Double Rainbow. About the same price.

The DR needs 6 pegs, the Vargo 4 but most will end up using 8 anyway.
( I used to, sort of, work for Tarptent)

My first bushwalking tent was a no-fly A-frame from Target. They were pushing the concept well before Tarptent and Vargo. Was useless in the rain though.

Was that target tent bug proof with the door of the tent open ?
BTW, I do find the "no fly" bit rather odd because they are in fact mostly a fly as opposed to an inner.
If indeed there was no fly you would be in troble in the rain.
To explain I'll use the Tarptent Moment as an example.
The first version was indeed a tarp-tent, that is a fly with a partial inner attach directly to the fly so that you have a floor and a bug proof interior :

the later versions became the Moment DW , double wall , so now the two (inner and fly) separate

however the 'fly or no fly" is the same (apart from some minor cosmetic differences)

Thanks Franco and J McJ. I don't think I'll be buying one any time soon. TT looks like a much better iteration of the single wall concept.
