I have actually lost count
Luckily for me this isn't BPL because these are never going to be anything but heavy tents.
This unit is lighter than most because it is smaller and in the main polyester duck not cotton canvas although the roof is poly/cotton. Throw ideas at me if you think of anything but in the main it is just a salvage and re-waterproof job with some extra tie points added as well as some extra poles
2400 deep and 3400 wide in the very old fashioned transverse ridge style

It does indeed. This is why I am thinking of running conduit or fibreglass wands from one side to the other to support the fly; and/or extending that ridge sleeve with webbing loops to use taller poles to support the ridge-line

My wife and I used exactly that style of tent to tour around Australia in the mid eighties. IT was all we could afford and it survived a cyclone at Alligator Creek National Park in QLD, a 3 day dust storm in Kalgoolie,( but we couldn't keep the dust out), 4 months set up in Kelmscott whilst I was working in winter. It was a beaut tent. but it isn't a snow tent. I re- applied waterproofing after every six months and it did work OK, but it did leak occasionally in very heavy down pours. If it is to remain where it is set up, I would get a big heavy duty poly tarp (grey one) and cover it , even if you intend to go to the snow with it, but you will need more and longer poles so you can get the tarp on steeper angles. This is what we did when we set up for long term camping in one place.

Yes I do agree but that is why I have a big waterproof polyester fly, that isn't rubbish in the foreground, that is my collection of spare tent poles; I'm sure that I can find something amongst that lot to support the fly

Given that I'll be using a very large fly I am thinking of cutting off the attached porch

Well yesterday i threw the big fly over the top and tied it down and the cheap Chineasy poles collapsed. I'd better drag the PVC and alloy frame out and see if it will be tall enough
