TIP: The online
Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

I've just arrived in Sydney from the UK and am planning to hike the AAWT beginning next week.
Food drop containers are the one issue I still need to sort out. Can anyone suggest anywhere I can get hold of suitable containers? Numerous google searches and trawling these forums have so far failed to give me any ideas to try.
I'll be picking up a hire car on Friday but ideally I'd like to obtain them from somewhere local do I can drive straight down to Kiandra etc over the weekend.
Of course if anyone in the Sydney area has any I could hire/buy that'd be great too

Fish and chip shops for empty steel fat drums
Otherwise 20 liter water drums from almost any hardware store or just a cardboard box wrapped in plastic which you will of course carry out with you

Cheap plastic bins with lids from Woollies or Reject Shop or hardware stores. And, as MD says, plastic wrap them to keep the bugs out. Worked fine for me so far, but always remember to return and pick up the remains.

Agree with both the above suggestions. Plus tape the lids just to be sure. And label them clearly as to who they are for, and expected pick-up date (be generous just in case you are delayed).
YHA at Thredbo will hold a package for you.

You can also get plastic ones from Bunnings - or new steel ones from NCI Packaging with clip lock lids (which is what I am using for same)
