Hammock

I've looked at hammocks online. The do look like fun, but I don't know if they are suitable for Tassie conditions for a few reasons.
1. Wind and side-blown rain
2. Possums I don't know if they'd climb along hammock ropes or not, but I'm not keen to find out! (Not to mention the Drop Bears...)
3. Suitable trees. A lot of our "trees" are really tall shrubs without a really sturdy main trunk from which to hang anything. Also, I would be concerned about damage to trees at busy camp sites.

Still, if you got one and gave it a try, I'd be curious to hear how it works out for you

I use a hammock and also sleep on my side in the hammock, I've never slept so good.

Have a look around on the net, there are cheaper options around as well as different types. I can't fault mine but if there aren't going to be trees around you could be in for some fun.

Dont you get a 'crick' in your back. Iv'e always found that, unless dead flat, i'm just not comfortable. Carn't imagine any pad being stiff enough?

No, but my back is already terribly twisted to begin with. I also have quite a large hammock so there isn't much curve in the area where I sleep. I sleep on my side but normally wake up on my back.
If you've slept in hammocks before you should know better than anyone else if they would suit. I know shorter hammocks wouldn't be much chop for me as my legs would be to high pointing in the air.
To get an idea of how flat larger hammocks are have a look at a recent discussion in the overland track forum. I was asking if hammocks would be suitable for the walk.

You can get lightweight tents and tarps as light or lighter than hammocks so if you enjoy a flat surface to sleep on stick with that.
