Not sure about the stock that Vast have, but Tyvek with the Homewrap printing is usually the hard structure homewrap Tyvek, not the soft structure 1443r.

As posted earlier in this thread, the 1443r stuff is more paper/cloth like and lighter compared with the Homewrap. The 1443r stuff is used in kite making, and protective apparel and signage printing, and usually is not preprinted. There's a pic of what it should look like in the TRG page http://www.terrarosagear.com/materialsconstruction.htm. I've not compared them directly, but my understanding is that the 1443r is more breathable than the homewrap.

The stuff at plastamasta is the homewrap equivalent, and the homewrap stuff is generally cheaper than the soft structure Tyvek.

Anyway if you can wait a couple of weeks, I can PM you when I'm back and you can look at it for yourself.

looked at it today - says "home wrap" doesnt reference 1443r is light noisy and strong / tough

what is the difference between the tyvek I can get at plasta masta for $180 for 30 m2 and 1443r?

You are looking at hard structure and soft structure Tyvek - and like Franco says within those categories there are different types as well. The Homewrap (Hard Structure Type 10) is paper like whilst the 1443r (Soft Structure Type 14) is fabric/cloth like. Homewrap is heavier, more water resistant, more abrasion resistant and durable from all reports. The 1443r is more breathable, lighter weight, will be softer, drape more like cloth, and pack down into a smaller size.

1443r will also be more expensive.

Edit: Sorry didn't see Keithy's response before I posted - he pretty much covered it.

Thanks for the explanation

it sounds ad if home wrap isnt wrong but that 1443r is prefrable

my interest was to find commercial sources in australia

material concepts (us) (a supplier) but in Australia

I will ask about the product supplied by plastamasta

It looks like I am discussing this myself but I have found a commercial source of soft structure 1443r In suburban Melbourne for $4.00 per m (1.524 wide) - not sure if GST included.
They only want smallish orders ie I asked for 6m they dont want 36 m orders for some reason.

When I get my stash (and am sure of the deal / scope for egg on face) will advise.

Quid pro quo - need a 800 sbag for 0 deg c +

That seems an unbelievably low price. Is it genuine Dupont Tyvek 1443r? It costs me about twice that to get a roll. You certainly cannot purchase it for that price in the USA.

Well it seems we have Dupont in Australia, and local distributors of rolls of Tyvek 1443r and Homewrap. That was news to me but its good for the Australian consumer. Thanks Dino rover for prompting me to look into that a bit more.

I haven't picked it up yet but i can confirm its about $4.00 plus GST I have asked for soft structure 1443r and they already report selling it for backpackers / hikers.

The business is Rojo Pacific http://www.rojopacific.com.au/contactus they sell printing materials. I was referred to them by Dupont in the states - I asked Dupont who distributed 1443r in Melbourne and this is who they nominated.
Ask for Georgette. They prefer to sell it in smaller lengths rather than rolled for some reason.

Cheers

Funny Dupont in the USA would never reply to my emails. I have spoken to Rojo and they offer a good service, I certainly cant match their price as yet.

Alex, do you (or anyone else) still have tyvek homewrap for sale?

Need ~2m x 2.7m, could get by with 1.5m by 2.7m but happy to buy
in whole metre increments.

Scratch this. Bought a 2.7 x 30m roll.

About to go away for 2 weeks, but happy to help anyone here out with a few metres from 7/4 to 10/4 before I go away again.

same here - I'm experimenting with rain shirts/skirts and would like to try out tyvek. Any chance you got a few meters left for me?

Thanks a lot

Hi all,
sorry to do this, but I only returned home a couple of days ago and have been madly organising bikes & gear for a month of touring in Japan, flying out tomorrow.

I barely had time to cut up the tyvek for my own ground sheet, and there's no time left to cut & post it for others.

When I get back I'll post again and anyone that's still looking for some I'll sort you out.

Anyone in Melbourne interested, I have some 1443r Tyvek spare. It's the 1.52m wide stuff, but has been folded. I think I have about 5-6m left.

$9/m PM if interested.

Hey Blakey, do you still have any homewrap available? I'm assuming you are back from you bicycle tour in Japan, which sounds amazing btw.

I am back, but I'm away for work for another week. It was amazing, highly recommended.

Some friends locally took a bunch off my hands, but I think there's enough left for me to reserve a bit personally and move on the rest. Once I'm back I'll have to PM a few others first who originally requested some though.

Another one looking for some Tyvek, the home wrap type for a groundsheet rather than the 1443r. 1.8m to 2.5m or thereabouts should do it if anyone has any.

I have an invoice waiting to be paid for rojo pacific for 10mt of 1443r but i wonder if I am having a mental lapse. I am getting this for foot prints under tents. Is this too delicate? Should I use the homewrap instead (if I can get it) despite it being noisy?
Thanks in advance for helpful advice from you clever walkers ...
