more prominent message to search previous posts

I"ve noticed a few people who have just signed up asking generic questions and often broad ranging ones that have been answered many times before in the forum, instead of searching the forum they post their question first.
I wondered if making the message about searching previous forums could be made more prominent especially to people joining up to avoid a lot of duplication of effort.

If you can stop everyone (not just new members) asking the same old questions over and over, you deserve it.

There's no doubt that it's a problem. I tend to think that no amount of education is likely to get such people to change their ways, but we should see if there's something we can do to make it clearer to people that they should search first.

There certainly are a lot of duplicate topics.

Tend to agree Wayno but I'd like to see you create a topic perhaps call it 'industry news' or some such and merge the dozens of topics you create about Rab's latest membrane, industry shows etc etc. they all get lost in the ether and are difficult to find.

yeah we only have the eqiupment category to hang that on
and a lot of the equipments posts are at present people asking questions about what gear to get. which of course is different from gear news and reviews, i have a facebook page for that as well.

Yep, my point is you could collect them in one topic in equipment.
