Grampians NP management plan to be reviewed

Postby Earwig » Fri 10 May, 2019 2:35 pm

Parks Victoria has announced that the Grampians National Park Management Plan will be reviewed, starting in July 2019. There have been a few issues raised about the park that you may have seen in the media (and in the forums on this site), largely around rock climbing and Aboriginal rock art, but hiking, camping, bush camping and the Grampians Peak Trail will also be up for review or comment. If you are interested and want to find you more, or want to be kept up to date with where the review is at and provide a few comments, you should register at Engage Victoria.

I'm not familiar with the recent development of the Peak Trail; does it mean that no further sections will be opened (or even constructed) until late 2020 or later?

There's certainly work happening on the ground. Troopers to Mt Difficult is being built as we speak.

Hi, great to hear that! Do you know if there’s any chance for a new section to be opened by February?

Who knows? The whole thing is way behind schedule (for justified reasons). But there is lots of track work that's been done and being done.

There are community updates

I remember walking up the Troopers Creek to Mt. Difficult track years ago. It has been shut for years since. The Staplyton Loop has been reopened but it has had much of the exciting rocky stuff/ambulance chasing lawyers stuff taken out of it ;-P . I remember scrambling up to the true summit of Mt. Staplyton nearly ten years ago and now you can't really get at it.
