My plans to go bush this weekend to explore the rainforest and photograph some local waterfalls have been thwarted by the tail end of ex-Cyclone Marcia as it lingers on our doorstep. I've been trying to study for the upcoming weeks lectures at uni instead & as always this has turned into a case of major procrastination, mainly looking through my topo maps, at internet trip reports and through my photo folder...
There are some okay ones in there so I thought I may as well share some of my recent shots for those who are also trapped inside and/or needing an excuse to avoid something more important. Hopefully we can get our outdoor fix soon (or just harden up and go for a walk in the rain, which I will be doing this arvo!)
Another Yuraygir trip, in the rain, which was as good as always with no-one else on the track due to the weather, a night at a quiet campsite right on the hind-dune and a chance to test my new (second hand) Osprey pack. It carried well enough with the 12 or so kg I loaded it with but I don't think I would like to carry much more with it and I'd rate it's upper limit at 15kg as there was visible strain in some of the stitching and seams.
On the return leg to the car there were literally thousands of these spiders all through the bush and blocking the track, a shock seeing as there were none on my way in. In some sections there were several per metre which took the relaxing out of what is usually a relaxing walk, having to concentrate on not bumping into one instead of plodding along enjoying the scenery. I was only partially successful, stepping out onto the road at the end with sticky white and yellow web on my arms, clothes and head. I used a stick to clear a path for myself, trying not to completely destroy the webs but clearing one or two strands instead so that I could squeeze past. This was also only partially successful as after a couple of hours I was becoming tired and careless and managed to bump into several fat spiders followed up with some funky dancing and swearing The joy of walking by oneself and not having the shame of someone's laughter!
