Pack repair recommendations

TIP: The online Bushwalk Inventory System can help bushwalkers with a variety of bushwalk planning tasks, including: Manage which items they take bushwalking so that they do not forget anything they might need, plan meals for their walks, and automatically compile food/fuel shopping lists (lists of consumables) required to make and cook the meals for each walk. It is particularly useful for planning for groups who share food or other items, but is also useful for individual walkers.

Pack repair recommendations

Postby wombat4787 » Thu 14 Aug, 2014 8:39 am

Hi,

a strap has broken on my pack (it's actually a pannier for my pushie), I was hoping to take advantage of the collective knowledge to see if anyone can recommend a place to get it repaired. I'm Sydney based. Anything close to Parramatta would be great, but I'm willing to travel.

And I have searched to threads and found nothing, much to my surprise.

Thanks.

A bit more detail is needed to get suggestions about how to repair the problem in terms of sources of materials etc. but if it requires sewing then your local shoe repair place can usually sew straps and heavy materials.

Any local sail maker is also a good place to get things like that done. They have all the stuff to do a really good job.
Most sail makers make canvas awnings etc and also make there own crew bags so they will have no issues with it

You could go into the city and see Venus -

http://www.venusrepairs.com.au

Normally good service and reasonable prices.

Kangaroo Tent City do repairs at the Parramatta store, however they are closing that store down so may have moved the repair dept.

There is also a canvas tarp manufacturer in Lidcombe called Nans Tarps that does repairs

If its still under warranty you may be able to get the manufacturer to repair it.

I second Venus. Most of the outdoor stores on Adventure Alley use them. Fast, cheap, good.

Can anyone recommend someone in the Launceston area who is likely to do a good job, or if appropriate tell me it's not worth trying to repair a pack? It's a Mammut pack, in quite good condition except for a strap which has just torn away from its anchorage.
Bought it from MD so can't go back there for advice.

Thanks to TT and John. Hobart is a possibility, but awkward. Unfortunately I have previously had less than satisfactory experiences with 2 places in Launceston, one for scoparia damage to the pockets of this pack and the other for a boot problem. Still hoping for a promising local alternative.
