I know there's several people here with a lot of experience in this area. Could somebody tell me how many hours it takes to walk from Lake McKenzie car park to Ironstone Hut, via Lakes Explorer, Snake and Nameless? From what I can tell from notes in another topic, it seems to be a fairly easy day to get there (apart from crossing the river and creek, if in flood).
I don't have any specific plans yet, but I'd like to do this before the summer is out, and I have a couple of fly fishing mates who I reckon would be pretty keen to come with me (I'm not a fluff chucker myself, but I am rather partial to arriving back at the base camp after a day walk to a feast of fresh fish caught and cooked by somebody else).
Also, in the event that Ironstone Hut was full, is there any decent tent sites nearby? I've only been there twice and I remember it being mostly rocky, and nowhere without a bit of a slope (the first time was too long ago for me to remember much - can't even remember which track I used to get there, the second time there was too much snow to really evaluate how good the tenting would be). The few photos I've kept don't show anywhere good for a tent, either.
