Hi there, has anyone every visited Emily tarn off the Hartz Mt track? Can you provide where it leaves the track and is it worth the side trip?

There is a cairn there now, on the left hand side, not long after you pass the turn off to Ladies Tarn, and just before you start the climb to the Hartz saddle. Noticed this a few weekends ago when I used this track to get to Mt Snowy. Unfortunately a cloudy mist was covering both Hartz and Snowy and it wasn't worth the climb, but we did get to Emily's.
The tarn is well worth the visit and the Hartz Mtn provides quite a dramatic backdrop.
On your way in from the main track, you will need to take mental notes of where the track is located. It is scrubby in places and on the way out is easily lost. Going in, you will eventually come to some cairns which follow the outlet creek upwards to Arthurs tarn. Once there, you are only a couple of hundred metres away from Emily's which is up and over a small saddle.
Hope this helps.

Hi there AB. thanks for the track notes for the Hartz park/Emily tarn walk. We went in yesterday, unfortunately it was 31 degrees, we scaled hartz peak but with young kids I didn't push onto Emily tarn or Mt Snowy. Yes the cairn is still there and you can see a small track leading off into the low heath. From Hartz peak you can see down to Emily tarn and I agree that with some care you could easily navigate around its base. Great view was enjoyed from the top, thanks again, alpinelad

Was at Emily tarn on the weekend, the cairn at the track turn off seems to have disappeared. The track start is on the left hand side of the main track at the point where the track from the southern tip of Ladies Tarn joins the main track on the right. If you have started the steeper part of the climb onto the Hartz saddle you have gone too far. The Emily tarn track is overgrown but not too hard to follow and both Arthur and Emily tarns are little gems. Takes about 40 minutes to the tarns from the turn off.
