Hiking in Indonesia?

Postby Kainas » Sun 22 Mar, 2009 8:36 pm

I am thinking about a trip to Indonesia in July. Probably Jakarta->Lombok->Bali. 1-2weeks, going over to practice the language and visit a school. I would be interested in considering a hiking trip somewhere around there. I know there are lots of volcanoes, so scenery might be vastly different than anything we have seen before.

Any suggestions?

I was lucky enough to go to Indonesia in January 2004 - mainly hiking around golf courses. This one is under Mt Merapi near Yogyakarta (where the plane crashed). A very beautiful area.

Yes it is smoking and it did erupt a couple of years ago.

This picture above reception at the club house didn't give you much confidence to stay long!

I recall asking about walking up the volcano. I understand there are 2 tracks to the rim.
