Sheffield falls

Postby walkinTas » Sat 08 Sep, 2012 10:14 pm

Kelcey's Falls: These falls are on private property in Sheffield. I was looking through the "Archives" when I found an old 1900 photo of these falls (link). So I just had to go out and ask permission to take a photo.

Redwater Creek Falls: While I was out that way I thought I might as well get a photo of this falls.

Thanks Timburke68, another one for the gallery. Cooee falls has been missing for too long. Of course it is private property and one should ask permission to enter. The west side, where you went, is probably the easier. Take a look here for a 1900's view of the same area.

PS: Officially it's Elver Falls - no 's'.

I dug up a print from many years ago.
This is a photo of it.
I was going to put it up in the game - but while I think I know where it is, I have not been able to confirm it from images on the web.
Anyone out there know what/where this is?
Gads3774sm.jpg

Update - Fairly sure this is one of the many cascades that run up the slope of Gads Falls.

I've named it Gads.
I believe there are a sequence of falls coming down off the top, and memory suggests it was a slippery scramble somewhere up there that led to this fall.

That will be interesting. I'm pretty sure that tastrekker has walked the whole creek so he might know. It is high on my must do list. I know there are at least three reasonable falls in the creek - all mentioned on the waterfall list. Are there more? Let's hope someone else has been there and can confirm for you. ;)

Is this the top fall or the middle fall. From the nomenclature list I believe the name Gads Falls applies to the middle fall.

It was a treacherous little scramble from what I can remember - and I don't think we got very far.
My problem is that the pictures of Gads don't line up with this, and curiously, they don't look as big as this one either?

Most pictures of "Gads" are the first fall up the creek, and its a little fall. That's why I'm wondering if this is the "real" Gads - the second fall.

Of course, a short drive in the morning would be one way to answer the question. :)

Edit: A quick read of tasTrekker's blog and there are 6 or more falls up the creek. Slippery and treacherous sounds about right.

Would it be permissible to insert the 2 images below each other.
That is a very striking contrast. Thanks.

A few falls I've visited in the past.
They are scanned from slides, so quality not brilliant

Serpent Creek Falls.
Don't know how you would go with access today as the land is owned by Gunns, or I should say whoever now controls ex Gunns land.
This predicament certainly changes the ball game in some areas.
One day I would love to try and see if there is a way to the bottom of the gorge and get a view looking up as they sure drop a long way, just cannot get a decent view from the top.
