Fungi in the Dandenongs - what fungi is this?

Mon 30 May, 2016 2:40 pm

Spotted and photographed today when wandering in the Silvan area of the Dandenong Ranges NP.
There was about 20 or so in the bunch.....what is the collective noun for fungus.....you know like flock of birds, murder of crows etc.
For the enthusiasts, the Dandenong Ranges NP is chockers with fungi popping up all over the place around the Silvan section.
I am always amazed how some of them smash their way out of the hard packed clay track surfaces.

Anyone know what this one is?

Fungi names are not my strong suit but I think it is Scleroderma citrinum or Common Earthball.

Just googled Scleroderma citrinum and the pictures that came up are spot on. Thanks MickyB.

Colony of fungus
Troop of mushrooms

That's quite a catch of collective nouns!

Learn something every day...Thanks neilmny.

Thanks gents, Colony of Fungus makes sense (now that you've told me) but the Troop of Mushrooms is something I would not have been close to guessing.
Don't forget when it comes to Pinatas it's a Plethora........(Ref. - 3 Amigos)

IMO it's been one of the best seasons for fungi in many years.
