Jatbula NT Jul13

Hi All, back from a 4 day hike on the Jatbula between Katherine Gorge and Edith Falls. Did a Biddlecombe10/17 Mile Falls20/Sandy Camp Pool15/15km break down. First day/night was with a group of 4 from the Perth Bushwalkers Club, really nice people, Mel, Frank, Nickas and Gorgie. Jumped ahead one night and ended up as usual doing the solo :D
Temp range 30 max and 11 min, wildlife - snakes, buffalo, pigs and a myriad of birdlife. One bush fire.
A couple of photos :)

Hey,

Just about to start the Jatbula Trail on Saturday the 27th of July.

Any tips you would recommend?

Just wondering about the transport options from Edith Falls. Is there much traffic coming in and out? We are wondering if hitching might not be the best option back to Katherine or Darwin?

Regards,
Casper and Erin

Hey everyone - just thought to let everyone know that the walk was fantastic - amazing waterholes, short walks, rock art, beautiful vistas. Already considering booking in again for next year! If you get the chance then do this walk.

Some notes about transport:

- From Edith Falls we hitched back to Darwin - saved a lot of time and money. Easily done in half a day (although it does help when you have a friendly, leggy brunette with you! :) ). We would recommend to try this as the cost and time to get back to Katherine to then get back Darwin is prohibitive. Given that, next year we are hoping to do it with three other friends - and in that case the cost of hiring a car for 7 days from Darwin shared between everyone would probably be affordable and cheaper than buses each way and a shuttle back to Katherine (though this option still involves one person hitching either at the start or the end to get from or to the car);

- Transport from Kathering to Nitmiluk - The Nitmiluk Park Centre was no longer offering shuttles between town and the campground. We only found this out once we got there! We were planning on hitching when lo and behold the shuttle did appear (apparently they were honouring for a few more months worth of paying accomodation guests shuttles, but that this service is no longer operational for the general public). But fortunately a quick chat with the driver and he let us pay for a ticket and we got dropped off at the campground (phew!).
We asked at the desk about this service a few times to try and get the story straight - and as far as we could tell that from here onwards there would not be a shuttle run by the Nitmiluk Park Centre anymore. Leaving no option apart from taxi or hitching...

Hopefully that will change in the future - but you would be best advised to check this out before your trip.

Regards,
Casper and Erin.

Wondered what the rest of the walk was like. Wimpy me only trekked above Edith and did a day trip at Katherine.
Got a few pictures of those strolls; nothing compared to you guys and, of course, I've got a lovely motorhome to sleep in afterwards!
Cheers
