Time to show us all your favourites!

This was taken on 28th August this year, on my first visit to Cradle for several years. I wasn't disappointed.

All these fantasy shots are great, unfortunately the reality is usually much more like this April shot from the the edge of Dove Lake, just below the carpark.

This is what most people get for their money.



Of course, I loved it. We had a great walk around to the Cirque and down to Rodway.

The fagus looked fabulous in the mist.

These aerial photos were taken as slides on Anzac Day 2003 - not a view of Cradle you get to see often, especially in these conditions with the fagus in full bloom.

A lot of my favourite views are already posted - so I will add some with a different slant.
[The one I would really have liked to add is a panorama of 2 old slides showing the full peak in morning light mirrored in Lake Rodway - but I have not yet been able to digitise them]
The orange fagus certainly adds to the scene - so these are from a walk past this last April.

Been a while since anything was put up here.
So a couple more then.. from April 2016..

This is my favourite for a couple of reasons.

1. I love the mood.

2. I was only there because some friends I was helping let me down. It reminds me what amazing things can happen when things don't go to plan!

I was helping carry a friend's pack for part of day 1 of the OLT. Plan A was that I'd do that as far as Marions Lookout. Plan B was to Kitchen Hut... Plan E was to Waterfall Valley hut, with a turnaround time for me of 5pm at the very latest. The other (strong, fit, healthy) members of the group took off once we started dropping towards Waterfall Valley. I was left alone with the friend who twisted an ankle, was exhausted, and was very, very slow. I was very, very grumpy with the others. In the end, I got to leave WVH just before 6pm. With an extra 5kg or so from one of the others who had taken too much stuff and changed his mind about it.

Finally I decided I could stay cross and not enjoy the walk out, or just take on the challenge and start enjoying it. The latter was a much better choice! Then when the light show started, and I had the whole mountain to myself, I was overwhelmed with gratitude that my friends 'put' me in that situation. I would have missed one of the most stunning evenings of my life if they hadn't taken off and left us in the lurch.

Great shot Tortoise. Many Ol'ers, uncertain of the unfamiliar, scoot over to Waterfall Valley asap but a later evening or even night walk to WFV or return always leaves me pretty darned happy too

A WALK IN THE PARK
I’d been there with my partner Lorraine, seeking out a new horizon, so to speak. Our aim was Twisted Lakes but, when we came to the first fork at Dove Lake we took the wrong option and it wasn’t until a couple of rangers caught up with us that we were told the correct route. Lorraine kindly offered to retrace our steps and we climbed as far as the ridge overlooking Lake Hanson, which was far enough for her.
So it was that a week later, around 3.30 a.m. in the morning, I left Wynyard, missing around 30 potoroos, 2 quolls and a wombat on my way to Cradle Mountain NP. I’d picked this particular day because the forecast was for fine weather. Shame about the rain for the first 105 or 120 kms! However, it almost miraculously stopped just before I entered the park and, by the time I’d reached the Dove Lake carpark I couldn’t believe my luck – not a cloud in the sky!
So I grabbed some star shots and headed for the hills, reaching the ridge just as dawn was happening and then doing the Lake Hanson loop track (mistake) instead of the shorter way over Mount Hanson. However, as I ascended to the tarns, I was gobsmacked at how lucky I was – a mirror surface awaited me and I couldn’t stop taking pictures for the next 15 minutes, ever fearful a wind would kick up.
My luck held and later I headed across the Face Track and down via Lake Wilks and the western side of Dove Lake. I was stuffed but deliriously happy. I realise that sort of walk would only be a warm-up for you serious Tassie walkers but, at 71, I felt it had been a full day.
