I love that campsite!
It looks like the exact same spot I plunked my tent when at Promontory. Weather also looks like what I had around sunset. Of course, it was getting worse rather than better . . .

Campsite after a snowstorm on the AT
This does have my tent in it but I thought some people might like to see a hammock setup as you dont see many here in Tassie. He has the tarp raised as with walking poles as it was a warm day.

That first one looks like you've pitched right on the track. Which is understandable, given the conditions.

It is an old logging road that bisected the trail, lots of those on the AT. Alot of the trail is in what we would call state forest.

Looks a very nice spot dplanet.
Having said that, I've seen a few camps set up under rock faces like that and I wonder what the falling rock risk is like?

A risk assessment was done before the tent was pitched. This site is quite similar to the site at the Fortress. Wonder why this issue was not raised with the previous posts on this topic.

A few from my last adventure with the Soulo - Sarek National Park in Swedish Lapland.
Camp #1 in Ávtsusjvágge.
Night #2 camp behind Skierfe, Gådokgaskatjåhkkå in the distance.
Night #3 camp above the Rapadalen, Skierfe in the distance.
Night #4 camp near Snávvávágge.
Night #5 camp in Basstavágge.

Gotta love looking at set ups. My mates just think a tent is a tent and cant understand why i sometimes sleep in the back yard when i have a warm cosy home a few meters away.
Keep em coming.

Peaceful spot. Any reason for pitching your tent right under an overhanging rock face? Can't tell how high that face is.

There was a natural viewing platform above the tent. It was possible to climb up there for the view.

Thanks, I was thinking of falling rocks and water in a rain storm.

Just around the corner from Girraween N.P.
Soothed to sleep by the sound of cascading water....
The rising sun usually highlights these falls...but not on this grey blanketed morning.
…And sometimes you have to get creative to center your tarp.
mmm...so warm, so light, possum fur/ wool beanie, gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
Tried an alternative to dropping off dry steep ridges to collect water from trickles & soaks, when my carried
water supply runs out. Turned it inside out so I could see the spiders & insects that get funneled off
my tarp & into this 5litre folding sink. Lightweight. Gotta rain over night for it to work though.

Wow. Walkon. Great pix. Ive never camped in the snow. I think im worried about being buried. Maybe i should try it but somewhere in a safe location in case i freak out to much. Tell me inside your tent what sought of temperature would it be. Were u warm enough to get a good night sleep.
Also a serious question, if you need to go number 2 during the night it must be a challenge .

Beautiful Walkon!!
The Snowy Range Air Field! Wow did your party walk from the Gate on Howitt Rd all the way to and beyond Mac Springs etc? Id love to hear more about the trip one day if you put together a report etc.

Big thing for me was the idea of a snowcamp on the *&%$#!'s Neck. Utterly awesome!

Looks a bit fresh. Good pixs

Was warm enough. But didn't get the ventilation right.
Condensation was pretty bad in the morning. Perhaps a different topic, but would like to hear from others how they use the soulo in the snow without waking up to a wet inner.
