Overland track transport from Launceston

Postby Juverstraeten » Tue 01 Aug, 2017 2:11 pm

Hi there, we are a group of two and looking for a transport to the overland track:
6th of August : launceston to cradle mountain
12th of August : lake st clair to launceston

If anyone can help us out that would be great. Or if you are looking for transport on the same days we may be able to group together to have a cheaper price

Juverstraeten, welcome to the forum. There's not much lead-time and it's winter, so the chance of finding someone is slim. I'd think about bus services like Tassielink and Redline. Tassielink has a bus from Launceston at 8.15am on Monday and Wednesday going to Cradle. Redline has a bus from Lake St Clair at 11.45am Monday to Friday, with no bus outside school term, going to Hobart.

Six days to do the OLT in winter is pushing it a bit. One day of bad weather and you could well be delayed. Have you done a walk like this before?

Thanks Lophophaps.

We contacted private transport services who can provide the transport. It's quit expensive though.

We have experience and will be alright :) Thanks !

It's good that you have experience. The OLT in winter is a serious undertaking, and ending up a dot on a graph is not a good plan. Still, we could run a story about this in the magazine ... I was thinking of a regular bus service to the start and from the end, reasonable costs. There's a taxi at Derwent Bridge, Helen, 0428 308 813, may be able to assist.

Try Paul Grigg from Outdoor Tasmania.

He is not cheap, but once you make the booking he'll put it up on his message board and hopefully get more people on your bus to bring the costs down.

Very reliable.
