AAWT Walhalla to Skene

Fri 13 Jan, 2017 9:15 am

Hello. Four of us are walking the AAWT section from Walhalla to Mt Skene (on the Jamieson to Licola Rd), commencing Sat 21 Jan. Has anyone got any recent knowledge of this section which might be useful for us?
Thanks

Much of the section after Baw Baw/Stronachs follows vehicle tracks with a couple of exceptions...up Victor Spur from Red Jacket was overgrown but not impassable as was the track down to and along Black River. Keep an eye out for the turnoff to Thompson River camp about 1k on your left past Easton Dam on Thompson-Jordan Divide Rd. The Jordan River was accessible from Blue Jacket with a path cut through the blackberries.

Thanks GBW

On a related matter, I see from John Chapman's update page (http://www.john.chapman.name/aawt-upd.html ) that camping is now banned at Red Jacket.

Does anyone have a comment about this?

There is a "No Camping..fines apply" sign there but I'm not sure how strict they are enforcing the law. Red Jacket is right next to the river and the road whereas Blue Jacket is 100m or so from the river. It's only a short walk along the road between the two so there's not a lot of difference. We were stopped there to collect water and check out the cemetery when a Parks Vic chap arrived so they must cruise the area occasionally. Blue Jacket is signed as the camp for AAWT walkers and I'd feel uneasy camping right next to the "no camping" sign at Red Jacket.
