Removing the 'N' names on NZ maps? What's this about? Any more background story to this?

Oh, that 'N' word. Only realised by magnifying up the map and finding the word. Didn't know that word was used to any extent in NZ nor here in Oz.

It's good thing the names are being changed. I can't think of another word that is more offensive... I would go so far as to say it's toxic.

I use common swear words as adjectives frequently (I try to keep in mind time, place , company), but never that word.
Gawd, it must even be at least 20 years ago that I started frowning at any joke with that word in it. A little bit of History can do that.
