Website bugs fixed, Photo Comp open until Monday

A place to chat about gear and the philosphy of ultralight. Ultralight bushwalking or backpacking focuses on carrying the lightest and simplest kit. There is still a good focus on safety and skill.
Forum rules
Ultralight Bushwalking/backpacking is about more than just gear lists. Ultralight walkers carefully consider gear based on the environment they are entering, the weather forecast, their own skill, other people in the group. Gear and systems are tested and tweaked.
If you are new to this area then welcome - Please remember that although the same ultralight philosophy can be used in all environments that the specific gear and skill required will vary greatly. It is very dangerous to assume that you can just copy someone else's gear list, but you are encouraged to ask questions, learn and start reducing the pack weight and enjoying the freedom that comes.

Common words
Base pack backpacking the mass of the backpack and the gear inside - not including consumables such as food, water and fuel
light backpacking base weight less than 9.1kg
ultralight backpacking base weight less than 4.5kg
super-ultralight backpacking base weight less than 2.3kg
extreme-ultralight backpacking base weight less than 1.4kg

Website bugs fixed, Photo Comp open until Monday

UPDATE: Hopefully all fixed now
Photocomp upload[FIXED 4:30 pm 19th] Fixed now. There are a few cases where uploading an image will fail, I think I know the cause and will fix this in the next few days. This is just an issue with the way this bit talks to the database

Forced to log back in[FIXED 10:30 am 16th] After posting or visiting a few pages, some people were forced to log back in. This may still happen once to everyone (due to cookie updates), but if it happens a second time again, please let me know. And if you can get a screenshot, that would be great (I am keen to see the full URL if possible).

Takatalk app[FIXED 11:30am 16th] . Tapatalk App was not loading bushwalk.com forum. Fixed this. There was an issue with managing some XML files.

(why the bugs? I migrated the server to improve reliability and speed and make upgrades and security patching easier. Bushwalk.com runs over a few different servers. The main issues are caused by my not configuring the new proxy system properly. I did a few practice runs but did not pick this up in my testing before making it live. This migration is also one of a few that I will do over the coming month to improve the forum and other things on Bushwalk.com, I am doing it steps to make debugging any issues a bit easier.)

----------------------------
UPDATE: Maintenance & Migration is now complete -- yippee.
There were a few issues with bits of code, so please report any new bugs.
Once I get time I will do a few updates, will let you know when they are happening
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I will be doing some server maintenance on the morning of Monday 15th April 2024 that will effect the forum availability.
It is likely there will be some downtime and errors, but hopefully not for too long.
You may need to log back in.
Hopefully, things go smoothly, but computers, so you know!

Matt :)

Some issues today with posting… just testing to see if they are resolved.
Edit: seems to be ok now. When trying to post or upload a photo, I was getting logged out.

Okay I had another report of this one after I 'fixed it'
There was a cookie mismatch happening (the forum sits on a different server to other parts of bushwalk.com). I am pretty confident I have not fixed this again and it working properly now.
fingers crossed.

Hi Ofuros
Thanks again for reporting this.
I have looked into this more. and I am confused.
I don't use tapatalk. So I have installed it and tested, and yep it is broken.
I am getting my head around this now, can you tell me if you have been using this in the past few weeks? Just trying to work out if it is pre-existing issue or related to the server change?

thanks

Don't know if it's related, but I've been trying to submit entries for the photo comp and the site won't accept them.
Choose the image, put in a title, hit submit and it just wipes the whole thing without giving a reason. The images are all under the size liimit and appropriately dated so it's not me.

ETA: Just read the additions to the initiial notice and the first mentioned problem is still happening for me. Heeeeeeelp!!

Howdy -- thanks again for this NNW.
All fixed now, sorry for the hassle.
It was an issue with how it was writing data to one of the database fields.
Hopefully works fine now. as mentioned in the other thread - I have updated the comp to give until Monday to submit.

I am sorry NWW
I would like to help and fix it. I can't see any errors in the log.
Can you email me your photos and titles, and I can add them for you?
If you got any error messages when trying, that might help me track down the issue.
Others have added photos, so there is something extra I am missing, but keen to help.
I tried it on my mobile, tablet and laptop - and it worked.
Is this the URL you are using? https://bushwalk.com/photocomp/
if it is too much, feel free to just email them to me, and I will keep looking.

I just followed the links through the forum. Board Index, Photo Comp, Entry, then the three separate categories. Select the image, give it a name, hit submit, it twiddles its thumbs for a bit and goes back to the category entry page with the details wiped. Does the same thing on them all.
It's not the browser because it's doing the same thing with Safari. The images are all under the 10mb liimit and all from March and it doesn't give an error message anyway. But it does seem to be just me, so ... well, I dunno. I'm not sufficiently techish to work out why it would do that.

Been getting 502 errors today. When the site comes back I have to log in again. I'm using Firefox on Ubuntu Linux.

Cheers,

Thanks folks
It is an issue with the server, my end not yours. I am still trying to work it out exactly. Apache (the interface with the world) is getting overwhelmed by something, but I am still trying to work out exactly what, but trying to narrow it down.
Hopefully get my head around it more over the weekend.

thanks

Matt :)

Hi, some feedback here.
Before noon this friday (Brussels time), I could not acces the site/forum. I had in chrome "This page isn't working.... too many redirects".
I tried until 2pm then message to a friend in TAS who could still access the forum.
AAt 2.40 he replied and he also couldn't reach the site.
Meanwile I had tried to clear the cache a few times, restart, use EDge, Firefox, use a VPN while in OZ, USA or Brasil. Nothing worked.

Now it worls again and I still have a half a second glitch where it seems the error message is coming but then it seems chrome reached the server.
So as you said, it's on your side. I haven't touched Apache in 15 years so I can't help. I checked the LIVE Kaspersky map of global attacks and OZ is fairly not attacked. Usual activity.
Good luck.
