Exped air mats 2017 onwards

A place to chat about gear and the philosphy of ultralight. Ultralight bushwalking or backpacking focuses on carrying the lightest and simplest kit. There is still a good focus on safety and skill.
Forum rules
Ultralight Bushwalking/backpacking is about more than just gear lists. Ultralight walkers carefully consider gear based on the environment they are entering, the weather forecast, their own skill, other people in the group. Gear and systems are tested and tweaked.
If you are new to this area then welcome - Please remember that although the same ultralight philosophy can be used in all environments that the specific gear and skill required will vary greatly. It is very dangerous to assume that you can just copy someone else's gear list, but you are encouraged to ask questions, learn and start reducing the pack weight and enjoying the freedom that comes.

Exped air mats 2017 onwards

Postby Petew » Sat 04 May, 2019 8:03 am

Hi,

I need a new lightweight insulated air mat for winter use. Looking at Exped synmat hyperlite winter and the equivalent down filled version.

I have 2 synmat 7 which I have had for six years, totally reliable. I also have 2 synmat UL 7, one of which has been replaced under warranty with the usual popped baffle issue.

I read somewhere that they have improved their manufacturing process/design to eliminate this issue.

The new UL winter mats have a darker grid on the face fabric.
Has anyone had any problems with the newer ones?

I am aware of all the other brands. Not interested in neoair as I loathe the valves and noise. I do have a sts ultralight insulated which is awesome and confidence inspiring, just not warm enough.

So, long story short, does anyone have any feedback on the newer models, 2017 onwards?
