Klymit static v ultralite sl

A place to chat about gear and the philosphy of ultralight. Ultralight bushwalking or backpacking focuses on carrying the lightest and simplest kit. There is still a good focus on safety and skill.
Forum rules
Ultralight Bushwalking/backpacking is about more than just gear lists. Ultralight walkers carefully consider gear based on the environment they are entering, the weather forecast, their own skill, other people in the group. Gear and systems are tested and tweaked.
If you are new to this area then welcome - Please remember that although the same ultralight philosophy can be used in all environments that the specific gear and skill required will vary greatly. It is very dangerous to assume that you can just copy someone else's gear list, but you are encouraged to ask questions, learn and start reducing the pack weight and enjoying the freedom that comes.

Klymit static v ultralite sl

As I found sleeping on a thermarest neoair about as slippy as a bar of soap, I went looking for an alternative. I don't mind my klymit static v2,I hardly roll of it like I did with the thermarest. My v2 is about 460gm, but now klymit have let out the klymit static v ultralite sl which is 337gm and AU$162 delivered, seems like a pretty good contender to the thermarest weight wise now.

I have the insulated ultralight one (Massdrop version from early last year) and it's slippery as an eel. Not so much in terms of me slipping off the mat, rather that the mat slides all over the silnylon tent floor. A good mat otherwise!
I think a later model had silicon dots on the underside. I couldn't see them on the one you linked too but they might be there.

You can always add your own silicon dots or stripes. Dilute with turps, then paint on. Franco has a youtube clip on it, iirc. It's a game changer.

Yeah I did try the silicon but it didn't work so well. It didn't do much to stop.the slipperiness and then it all started peeling off. Maybe I got the ratio wrong. I did my tent floor too and it stuck on properly and has helped a bit but if the ground isn't dead flat then any rolling around in bed is enough to start me sliding.
