Making your Own Pot lids.

Postby John Sheridan » Thu 24 Nov, 2011 10:41 pm

I want to make a couple lids for my Optimus pot set, just wondering what methods you guys and gals have come up with that work well, I know the easy tin foil method, but looking for something a little more professional. I only want to make the lids so I can use both pots at the same time.

I was thinking of using Milo Chocolate drink lids, from memory those are very very light, I was thinking of using some normal can lids off normal stainless steel cans, but they seem to be pretty heavy. The Milo Tin lid will only work if they fit, so I guess I better go see if they do which every size of tin is closest I will try.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Cheers.

Hi john.

I've got a small 600ml pot and I make a lid out of a cut and flattened coke can. I straighten it by folding the edges to makes it rigid.

It sits just over my pot and keeps the steam in. When it gets dirty I dispose of it and make another. It doesn't look professional but it does the job. 8)

try buying shim stainless steel or titanium foil.

instructions on here: http://www.titaniumgoat.com/windscreens.html

Shim stainless steel is much cheaper. You can buy it on amazon. I assume if you just ring up a local shim steel manufacturer then they would send you out some.
