Made a cuben pack today...

Sun 06 Nov, 2011 8:21 pm

Made a cuben pack today. Well, kind of yesterday too. And Friday night, but that was the Tyvek proto.

Quite chuffed, it's 97g and completely waterproof. Wanted to test the concept that a pack is mearly a holster for a dry bag.

Anyway, here are some photos. Better go clean up my mess.

And the all important, how much does it weigh...

Thanks mate.

Here's another picture, pack's just chillin' on the sofa watching soap operas. 'Cause that's what these sort of pack's most enjoy doing.

Thankfully now that the pack madness is over I can return most of the cushions back to the living room.

Nice pack j-pugz, is it a shell and thinner dry bag or laminated? Nice simple design, looks small enough to be out of the way behind yer back in scrubby going, will you use it as a daypack or overnighter?

Hey Nuts, not laminated, just seated inside.

I didn't make it for anything particular, but just as an exercise in making a pack as practice for more complex things.

Having said that, I think it will be good for overnighters... Trying to get my pack weight super light. Pretty happy with how it turned out, and how much I learnt making it :)

J-pugz, I was having a little trouble getting my head around your pack until you pointed out it was a dry bag style in a more minimalist "carrier". Have you made both bits from Cuban? Ive never seen Cuban. Is it soft or stiff? How well does it sew? Does the fabric tend to "pull" around the stitches, opening the stitch holes? How have you tape sealed the dry bag bit?
Where did you source it?

Not that I need any more fabric at the moment!!!
