Joining trekking poles

Sun 02 May, 2010 9:45 pm

I use BD Flic-lok trekking poles and have a Go-lite Shangri-la tent that has a centre pole. If I could joint the poles somehow I could ditch the 300 gram tent pole. Anyone know a secure way to join two trekking poles together?

A couple of suggestions.
BD has a commercial version of what you are after.

or you can make your own.
This is my version
Once the straps are "locked" together I just wrap some cord around them.

My Hex3 (the old golite tipi) came with a short extender (same as that linked) It is just a piece of alum tube, weighs b'all..
Yer, there are a few commercial pole joiners around though..

If you dont want to use cord Velcro Adjustable Wrap is really good 19mm x 1m would weigh around 14gm ,quick easy and strong.

Thanks all - I'm onto it with a home-made joiner.

Lapping and Gaffa tape work for me ;-)

Thanks all - I bought 40cm of 16mm aluminium tubing and a rubber cap for about $5 and it fits quickly and neatly over the ground end of the pole and is strong and secure. It weighs 58 grams - how good is that?
