New under quilt from old down?

I have two 1998ish Alpine Concepts (Aust made) Savanna 750 sleeping bags - duck down - Pertex Ripstop nylon - see photo and embroidery details:

The bags weigh 1.2 - 1.3kg... which is too heavy for my hiking bag - what do you do with old down? In fact what do you do with old sleeping bags?

I assume the materials from 'back then' are heavier than those used now, but is the down is recyclable - was the down back then heavier than today's duck down?

I've recently got a Warbonnet Blackbird Hammock... from the Market section here... can anyone assist a non-seamstress with how to convert some of these two bags into an under quilt? Is it too technical?

Or if anyone wants some old down for new money I'm also all ears.

Running some elastic through channels isn't hard and to make a simple underquilt that should be all that is needed.
