New sled harness

Having lost my sled and associated harness in 2014 I needed a new set so I can pull a sled
I cannabalised an old rucksack for some of the parts and got the rest from my stash
Very comfortable and the buckle over the belly is padded on this version
he buckle is an aircraft alloy Tabler style from Moster that came from my very first pulk, and not prone to release when pulling hard
Took about 3 hours to work out and sew

So I can get my winter gear from Falls Creek village to Pretty Valley, 8 kilometers along the road but a lot of weight sometimes, up to 135 kilos once with a sled train
Mind you I stopped pulling both sleds fairly soon and did the leap frog thing
main requirement is that it is strong enough to cope with the load plus shock-loading and that it doesn't fall down
One of the reasons for what looks like excess webbing is that it can be adjusted for multiple layers of clothing if that is even necessary and different body sizes
The shoulder harness is mainly so it doesn't slip down but it does help when heaving the sled to start off
The loops on the hips attach to the eyebolt on the sled pulling bars with a carabiner, you push the loop through the eye then slide the krab through the loop
I haven't started work on a new sled yet but they only take a few hours/days to make using old skis

I've made a sled, it works great for pulling crap through the snow. Took me around 2hrs and $40 bucks using parts filched from work.

It was stupid heavy because we towed in firewood, beer and two bottles of wine but it worked fine. We clipped the arms to the pack harness, not the best solution but for a short distance it worked fine. My larger packs have a sled attachment point on the waistbelt, which I assume is much nicer than our solution.

Yours looks nicer still. Do you plan on wearing a backpack as well?

I don't plan on wearing a pack but I could if I had to carry emergency gear. No real need for that here as I won't be pulling over frozen water, doesn't get cold enough here for that
Only 2 bottles of wine? We usually use cheap port in plastic bags [ Ye Olde Chateau Cardaboardio ] and overproof rum
A Paris Expedition sled or similar is on my shopping list for the New York trip although I usually make them from old skis

Fiddling with a DIY sled set-up with a mate, we settled on having the poles crossed over and the loop for the pole biner by the iliac crest.
We had a quick release system for the full harness just in case the sled fell into a crevasse or through thin ice but as Moondog states above, not something as important here.

I'd like to get a sled like the ones you tow behind a power toboggan, but they're a bit too costly.

Even tho I'm bringing back some Paris sleds I'm still making a ski based one as well if I get time
