Wildlife Seen on Your Last Walk?

Where I walk from my house I end up, after a couple of hours, at a car park lookout. Since this lookout is a dead-end road people park there and assume they can comfortably get up to...or down with.. whomever or whatever they like, if they don't hear a vehicle approaching they're alone.

Not so...my walk ends with me emerging from the bush right in front of the parking and I've sprung many! So many infact I hold a LOT of the Illawarra's shamefull secrects that I may yet extort for a pincely sum.

Ambling back to the car after our time in the Tarkine rainforest, and what do we meet ambling down towards us . . .

Very impressive threat display the buggers have, too.

Found this scary/beautiful looking spider up top of Mount Bogong. Does anyone know what kind of spider it is ?

Looks suspiciously like a Tarantula. He/She looks a reasonable size.

Yeah was a good size... Was a bit scary knowing you could be sitting right on top of it.
We all know there are spiders around , but when you see one like this and its where everyone sits and camps , yukky ...

I saw this little guy last Saturday in a creek just 2km out of the centre of Hobart He was there again this morning, in plain sight, thrilling a young mum and her boy (and me, again!) The creek - officially a rivulet - runs beside a frequently used pedestrian/cycle track that leads to the city. Minutes before we had seen a strangely-coloured tiger snake beside the track. It's amazing what's out there when you start looking.

Stunned to see one in Cygnet in what I thought was a storm water drain adjacent the caravan park. Plastic trash everywhere, oil slick on the water.....

Everything from animals, birds to sea snails and anemones are listed.

Some animals are special.

You expect to be overrun with wombats at Waterfall Valley, but seeing a quoll there is ultra cool.

And being overflown by a wedgie four days running (OK, staggering, given the snow and the weight of the pack) is every bit as good.

We were walking along the Bingie Dreaming Track and watching this eagle soar backwards and forwards above us. While we were watching the eagle, it turned out it was watching us too.

Nice find ofuros. How do you tell the male and female apart?

Two raised spots at the base of the middle/3rd set of legs make it a female.
Two raised spots at the base of the back set of legs make it a male.

Mallee Fowl nest which looks active. Central Block of Little Desert NP.

This rather large Earthworm trying to escape the sodden ground. It was very interesting watching the striations through it's body as it moved. I wondered whether that was the food it was digesting or just normal colourings.

I walked the Larapinta Trail in July and was surprised that we didn't see any mammals till the last day (day 14) but did see a fair few birds and lizards. The budgies were nesting as shown in thes photos.

A land mullet about 50cm overall. Moved away from the path but paused to check me out. There is a turkey mound nearby and the bird circled around, the lizard hissed.

Later saw a more relaxed blue tongue and then a big lace monitor that decided to watch me from a tree.
