Where or what is this?

Postby Lophophaps » Mon 05 Aug, 2019 6:59 am

A while ago Beardless made a suggestion about a new topic. His first post has been edited, below, as an introduction.

Have you ever looked through old photos and forgotten where you were when you took them?

Have you ever found old bushing slides from a relative but don't know what they depict?

Have you taken a photo of something that needs identification?

Are you lost and have taken a photo and have an internet connection and want some advice (which may not be correct) about how to find your way back to wherever you need to go?

This topic is for these and similar scenarios where the person posting the photo would like some identification information.

I suspect the first entry in this was actually a long time ago - see http://bushwalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4590&hilit=ballroom

The lesson was check if your scans are not reversed.

heh... yep. I thought of that old post when I first saw the suggestion for this topic too. :-) And I accidentally made it extra challenging with flipped slides.

Okay. Let's continue. I took this photo of a waterfall in Tasmania in 2014. I think we were in the East perhaps near Mt Victoria on a short walk. But it is possible we were on the North somewhere. Can someone name the falls because I cannot remember where it is?

Looks like Halls Falls in the Blue Tier.

Different angle, but look at the rocks below the fall:

Yes Halls Falls is clearly the one. And yours is a lovely shot of it. Thanks NNW.

Looks like a shelf fungus to me. Not uncommon at all.

Cheers
