If that's the one I'm thinking of (Black River crossing), it's an official mark put there by the track maintenance crew.

I really dislike consumables that do not live up to manufacturers claims as to service life and/or durability
I bought a new battery for the Dolphin torch that lives in the ute only to discover on the glamping W/E that it was dead
I first assumed that either myself or a tadpole had left the torch on by mistake but this morning I was recycling the case and found the internal cells had all corroded away and leaked

I have of course emailed Eveready and complained
Time to investigate rechargeables for this application

That's the one NNW. Not sure what makes it official but it's pretty obvious a chainsaw was involved.

What about large signs like this one at Baw Baw near the Mushroom Rocks. Just a tad too large for my liking and seemed out of place:

This will be interesting Moondog.
I had two Dolphins over the years, both went flat when not in use.
Check the on/off switch...neither of mine measured 0 ohms when off.....ehem!....very mysterious....perhaps check yours.
Would never own another.....but that's just my experience

Oh, the Dolphin torch light! That was a popular product when it came out. Same experience, the battery have always discharged during storage, so never really 'shone'. Compared with the LED torches of these days, that was so useless.
Just move it!

Semi-official, if you like. I walked that section of the track just a few days after it was finally rebuilt, and that treatment of the log crossing was brand spanking new. Maybe they'd run out of little yellow triangles and wanted to make sure no-one misunderstood the slightly altered re-routing of the track. There are a number of vehicle tracks & pads going in various directions in that area, so the carving on the log makes sense under the circumstances.

It's the graffiti on natural landmarks and historic buildings that really bugs me. All the scratching on Chamber's Pillar for instance, or the morons who think it means something special to write or carve their names in the walls of Old Pelion Hut.

Mind you, something else that happened on a recent walk was even more annoying but I'd rather not discuss it publicly until I've had some official feedback . . .

The dolphin torch was sort of the defacto standard for CFA use, so I have several of them, this was the battery from the LED version.

This is a very entertaining topic.
I will add:
- At the end of a long day of walking, watching the dinner you had looked forward to so much soak into the sand/dirt after your cooking pot falls off the stove
- Another person / group showing up just when you thought you’d have the place to yourself
- Importing photos after a walk and discovering that dust spots behind the camera lens have left blemishes on all of them
- Waking up in the middle of the night needing to go to the toilet – especially in winter

Happened to me once, up near the Dummy Salt Camp. That was when I decided to move to a remote burner. Makes it harder albeit still possible.
Another person / group showing up just when you thought you’d have the place to yourself

A number of us have already bitched about that. It's at its worst when they insist on pitching right next to you.
Importing photos after a walk and discovering that dust spots behind the camera lens have left blemishes on all of them

There are simple tools that will remove dust spots. Some cameras can even be set up to more or less ignore them.
Yeah, I know, it adds to the PP work, but it's worth it. Of course, the simplest method is to keep your lenses clean. I carry a cloth and blower brush with me at all times.

Only to my pride. Two chopper rides in ten weeks is overdoing it (at least it was a different crew). Apparently they insist on checkout at a major hospital for rollovers, and if you're in a relatively remote location - this was near Tungatinah so it was the Hydro staff at the PS taking care of it all - they call in the helicopter. It's automatic. Nearly died of embarrassment when I found out . . .

Not even stiff. Don't let anyone tell you seatbelts are a bad thing.

Crikey NNW! Glad it was only your pride that was done in. I do know that TAS is the centre of car overturns as I've done it once many years ago too b/n Launceston and Cradle Mtn. The moist landscape seemed to soften everything and I crawled out without a scratch.

No, it was a bit further down the hill to the bridge/power station complex. You know that sweeping bend with the wide turnout on the eastern side, and a short unsealed track that cuts off a couple of minor corners? It started a bit above that and the car is now at the bottom of it.

As I recall, they had taken the chainsaw to the log to create a flatter surface and some steps anyway (presumably as a safety measure?), and that's where they AAWT engraving was. I thought it was a cute touch. If they had just blazed the side of some random (living) tree, I would have been less happy.

NNW, glad to learn that it's just your pride that is injured. At least there was no fire. I'm not a mechanic but suggest that the vehicle will need some TLC before it gets a roadworthy certificate. How many frequent flier points do you have now?

It's a write-off!

So much for the Toyota's "unbreakable" commercial where the natives roll it down a hill for coconuts...

You should sue for false advertising!

Write-off for me as it's just not worth what it would cost to repair.
As for 'unbreakable' - believe it or not, apart from one badly dented wheel-rim and slightly wonky idler arm, the engine, drive-train, suspension and steering are OK. The Hydro boys actually drove it to its current position once it was removed from the rocks it landed on. Very carefully, of course.
